Convinced that he delivers the word of God, given to him by his father Joseph and through “little whispers”, Jesus discovers that he Jews ignore his preaching. They have been warned to beware false prophets, and that true ones can be recognized only by their miracles and fulfilled prophesies. To get them to accept the truth of his revelations, he allows his followers to give him credit for miracles he did not perform. But as he relies more and more on deception, he slowly slips deeper and deeper into sin.

The author blends historical facts with Biblical accounts to make a vivid and compelling portrayal of Jesus, not as God, but as a man–a prophet–who is desperately trying to teach others the importance of his revelations.

“If I had read this book when I was a teenager, I might not have become an atheist.” –Frank Crawford, Professor of Physics, U. Calif. Berkeley

The Sins of Jesus A Historical Account of a Human Jesus edition by Richard A Muller Literature Fiction eBooks

For a non-Christian interested in understanding Christianity this book makes Jesus more human and more complex (and frankly likable and admirable) than anything else I've read or been exposed to privately and publicly. My worldview leans more to science and skepticism but I enjoy and am emotionally moved by literature and good storytelling. This book is a plausible story of a flawed but good person who's message was greater than the messenger. In addition, I appreciated the irony, and subtle humor sprinkled throughout a very serious drama. Thanks to the author, I will likely be reading more on the historical Jesus.

The Sins of Jesus A Historical Account of a Human Jesus edition by Richard A Muller Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

The title attracted me because I believe we are all sinners and we are one with each other, including Jesus. I read the first 200 pages of this book on the Net for free. The revelations and the inspiring episodes had so much impact, that I ordered it. It dealt accurately with Roman, Jewish, Essene, and Zoroastrian culture, but skipped the Egyptian part of Jesus' training as a small child, and merged the Chaldean and Zoroastrian into a single current. It also portrayed Joseph, the father of Jesus, as an early source of mystical ideals for Jesus (although very differently from Baigent's Holy Blood, Holy Grail). I do not agree that the events in this book are historically accurate. Nevertheless, I think this book reflects important truths that most children of Abraham (Sabeans, Jews, Christians, and Muslims) have lost, and should go look for. The confusion between the memory of Joseph, the earthly father, and the inner voice of the Father in heaven, shows insight into how people we meet throughout our lives can affect us. They can give us excuses to enjoy life, to love (forgiving our enemies and even our selves), and to serve.
This book will broaden the mind of all atheists and Christians and delight those that are both.
This book gave me a new perspective on the man called Jesus. As a non-believer, I categorically dismissed the miracles of Jesus as Christian propaganda. They never made sense. If Jesus could cure a blind man, why not cure all blind men?

The idea that he used magic to capture the attention of his listeners is both plausible and convincing. As a magician, I've seen people affected in ways you cannot otherwise affect them. Some actually think it's supernatural.

This book follows a very logical progression from when Jesus was a boy, to when he was crucified. The doubts, and conflicts he experiences makes for a compelling and multifaceted individual. In my opinion, Dr. Muller's book is closer to the truth than scripture.
Entertaining and interesting first-person account of life in biblical times, especially as that person is Jesus!
Thought-provoking. Broadens outlook and perspectives on issues and interpretations of age-long discussions, beliefs, and behaviours of different people in societies and religion.
I purchased this book after having read one of Muller's books on physics. I wasn't sure what to expect but was very pleasantly surprised. This book takes a look at a fictionally embellished Jesus within an accurate historical context. The characters are compelling and the book is actually quite a page turner. I very much enjoyed every bit of it.
The endeavor the author embarks on is truly innovative - while it relies on existing historical research and likely some speculations already made by other thinkers, the overall picture of Jesus as a man is both extremely original and quite compelling at many moments. Uniquely, I do not feel the 'debunking' of miracles or alternate story offered in contrast to the established Gospel narrative to detract at all from the forcefulness of Jesus' teachings or even from a spiritual approach to Christianity. Having descended down the tunnel of 'deconstruction' of my faith for some years now, while still identifying as a Christian in general, I felt closer, as it were, to Jesus than I have in a long time. The character of Jesus in this narrative goes through his own deconstruction and critique of Judaism in a sort of faith crisis, questions its approach to scripture as inerrant or fully inspired, and through experience and the teachings of figures outside the Jewish tradition comes to form a new revelation of how to think about God and creation. This parallels an experience so incredibly familiar to me that I am left wondering, does such a view not actually make Jesus' teachings even more relevant and accessible, and therefore somehow more divine?
An historical novel that captures much of the spirit of Jesus as a human, in line with the perspective of Thomas Jefferson and other Unitarians.
